Small house on a tiny island
Vinkeveen Lakes, NetherlandsA 'legveld' is a strip of land in the peat district where dredged peat was laid out to dry to make turf. The plots were usually long and narrow, surrounded by water or marshy peatland. In the Netherlands, this layered structure is still clearly visible in peat areas such as the Vinkeveen and Nieuwkoop Lakes. Today these beautiful waters are lined with small cottages.
