Dutch peat lakes, NetherlandsA cottage on a narrow strip of land, with the boats moored right beside it. On the Dutch peat lakes, such strips, known as legakkers, still lie just as they were first formed: peat was dredged here and laid out to dry to make turf. What remained is a landscape of long, narrow islets in dark water.
From above it becomes almost abstract: an orange roof, a cluster of trees and a few white boats on a sheet of deep, still water. It is precisely that emptiness around it that makes the work so calming on the wall.
